Pattern of Design

Sherry Pritchet

Hey, I’m Sherry, freelance surface pattern designer and voice behind this blog - Pattern of Design.

Life as a freelance designer can get a little lonely, so I wanted to create a space for creative chats and community. Somewhere to talk pattern trends, design tips and general creative life hacks.

Through my work as a commercial designer – both in house and freelance – I’ve learnt a lot about my design style, as well as technical tips and tricks to speed up my workflow and make design life as exciting as possible. I love getting off the screen and getting into the flow with some paints, pencils or cutting and sticking - anything to get my hands dirty and I’m always on the hunt for ways to bring this fun into my patterns. I’d love to share what I’ve learnt with you and if you’ve any pearls of wisdom please do send them my way!

Although I like to think I’m slightly more refined these days, playing with colour palettes and pulling mood boards takes me back to my childhood love of messy play! I’ll be sharing some of that colour love and kidswear trend predictions in future posts – how about you, do you find yourself drawn to certain colours? Or is there a cute character you think will be the next big childrenswear trend?

Design is constantly evolving that’s what keeps it fun right? But also makes it somewhat overwhelming, I hope that this little corner of the internet will bring some calm inspiration along with design wisdom, beautiful moodboards, and pattern snippets.

I want to delve into topics including; what will dinosaurs be doing next season in kidswear? How can we create a commercial gender-neutral children’s capsule collection without using grey or lemon? What is the key colour for Spring Summer 2023? All the important questions! What about you, are there any design topics you want to explore with me?
