Hey There! I’m Sherry.

It’s lovely to virtually meet you.

So, a little about me.

I’m a Bristol based freelance illustrator and surface pattern designer, with a love of colour, working in the children’s and homeware markets.

With over 10 years of experience as a commercial designer, I have developed a knack for pushing the creative boundaries whilst remaining customer specific, delivering fresh, new, and unique ideas to ensure your products stand out.

As a fully flexible freelancer I’m here to support you when you need a little extra design help whether in house, or remote working.

Keep reading for a bit more about my creative journey so far.

Sherry as a young artist in painting apron sat at the kitchen table painting a picture of a boat on the sea whilst giving a cheesy grin to the camera.

My love for creating started young, one of my strongest early memories is of painting and sculpting clay at an art club at around 4 years old – I’m pretty sure my parents took me there to get me out from under their feet, I had a new baby sister at the time, but I loved it!

Skip forward a (fair) few years and you’ll see me achieving my degree in Fashion Design at Plymouth College of Art.

Then the real work started, I secured a position as a graduate designer for a well-known childrenswear supplier to the Highstreet working on licensed clothing ranges for baby and toddler – via a brief foray into designing PPE and workwear for several hardware companies and Dickies.

It was there that I caught the bug for creating fun and colourful outfits for kids, complete with prints. From painterly florals to cute woodland graphics, I worked on sweet kids ranges for Mothercare, TU at Sainsburys and Debenhams.

As well as my key industry experience, I keep myself immersed in relevant trends for the kidswear and homeware markets.

So I can jump in feet first to any brief you need covered – giving as much or as little input as your project needs.

My path then took me to JoJo Maman Bebe – I was hooked on the array of colours in their kids ranges and must have squeaked about colour at least 10 times in my interview. I loved working on the super cute ranges for toddler boys and girls alongside nursery product and even toys, but London was just not for me.

I craved more space to explore!

Which is why you’ll now find me in vibrant Bristol – designing as a freelance print and pattern designer from my dockside studio on Spike Island, Bristol’s harbourside.

Now I have the space to experiment and generally get my hands dirty, with techniques from gouache to Procreate when creating graphics.

I love to hand draw elements for my seamless repeat prints before pulling them into Adobe illustrator, giving a distinctive endearing quality to the artwork and adding movement and interest. This working style ensures my prints and patterns are not only unique and timeless but also easily editable and factory ready.

With experience managing teams as well as working within them, I know the benefits and extra brain space you gain having a freelancer who is easy to communicate with.

You need a freelance designer who delivers on time and is adept at reading briefs as well as keeping you updated on the progress of your project – that’s me.
